Why use a Faraday Cage?

Electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference from power line and switching power supply sources, plus wireless communication noise can interfere with the sampling sensitivity of recording equipment. If you need to maximise your signal-to-noise ratio consider investing in a Faraday Cage. Faraday cages are designed to absorb and reflect EMI and RFI and provide great shielding.

 

How to build a Faraday Cage?

By surrounding your equipment with high conductivity materials such as silver, aluminium and copper you can shield your instruments against EMI and RFI interference. This greatly improves signal-to-noise ratios in any experimental setup.

 

What is a Faraday Cage made of?

MCI-Air Faraday Cages are made from a sturdy corrosion resistant aluminium frame and copper mesh with a small nominal aperture. This enables the cages to be lightweight whilst providing optimum shielding.

 

Why ground a Faraday Cage?

It is important that the Faraday Cage is well grounded and connected to earth, if any data or power lines enter the cage. This will enable it to perform its role of shielding EMI and RFI noise from your equipment.

 

Can I add cable ports to a Faraday Cage?

Yes.  Cable ports can be added to allow for power and data lines to enter the cage but should be kept to a minimum. Depending on the dimensions of the cable port required, gaskets or power line filters might be included in the MCI Air Faraday Cage design to ensure optimal shielding over any interruptions in the cage structure.
